Writing is a secret success weapon that’s often overlooked. Becoming a consistent writer, recording your thoughts in a journal, can bring many benefits. Regardless of your occupation or what kind of business you run, writing can help you succeed in many ways. When you think of some of the most popular books of our time, they are often written by successful business owners and visionaries who had a habit of writing.
Even if you aren’t going to write the next New York Times best seller, you should develop the habit of writing. There’s tremendous power in penning your thoughts, ideas and strategies. There are many different forms of writing, but all of them lead down the path to success. At the very least, you should be writing down what you really want. Why? Because what’s written is real. When you keep your desires just floating around in your head, you can’t go anywhere with them. When your vision is written down, you can then run with it and move yourself closer to goal achievement.
This week I’m going to show you the power of writing with intention and how it can help you reach your business goals.
Writing about your business vision and goals will help you to clarify and expand on them. You have to see the future of your business clearly before you can attain it. The more you practice writing, the more it will become a habit and something that you begin to truly enjoy and carve out time for. Enjoy the writing process and the personal development that comes with it. Here are some ways that you can write your way to success.
Write out your morning meditations. Meditation is the practice of visualizing your best possible outcome and seeing it in your mind’s eye. During this time each morning –even if it’s just for a few minutes — take out your journal and begin to write out what you are meditating on. Writing your vision makes it even more concrete and adds more detail to your visualization — which in turn can speed up manifestation! Well before Walt Disney World was built, Mr. Disney first imagined it in his mind, then he wrote in his journals a clear vision for the amazing theme park. By the time of the Grand opening of the park, although Disney had passed on, many well-wishers expressed to Mrs. Disney that they had wished Walt could see it for himself. She replied, “He did.” That’s the power of extracting your vision from your mind and on to paper. It is a necessary step to making your vision a reality.
Do you have a vision board for your business and life? Take a moment this week and start articulating the vision that you see when you meditate on your board. Write out an overall goal, then start breaking it down into smaller milestones. This process will take you from just wishing to working on your dream.
Write with detail. Use pen and paper to paint a clear picture of what you want to accomplish. Every time I create a new product, I first write a vision for it. I ask myself questions like, who’s this product for? How will it make a difference? How will I market it? What are people saying about this product? What makes it so special?
By answering these questions, the product becomes more real and so does the direction I want to take with it. It’s important for you as a business owner to get intimate with your ideas, think them through on paper so that you can manifest what you want.
Write your goal expectations. This process is what I like to call scripting your future. It’s the simple process of writing what you want to happen in the near future in the present or past tense as if it is already happening or has happened.
For example, before I ever started my coaching business, I wrote a script of how I interacted with clients and how I helped them to achieve their business goals. Here’s an example of the script:
I am a nationally recognized life and business coach that works with women helping them to start and build their business and their life. Clients come to me from all over the nation seeking my expertise, experience and ingenuity to develop unique ideas and products for their business. My clients are so satisfied with the results that they refer my services to others and become lifetime loyal customers.
Several of my clients have used this process to manifest new homes, cars, businesses and babies!
Use Success Stickies to write encouraging notes and affirmations to yourself. Writing doesn’t always have to mean several pages in a notebook or journal. You can write your way to success simply by jotting notes, too. Success Stickies are a great way to reinforce your top goals, see your affirmations and encourage yourself by posting them up in your workspace. Even a simple note such as, “Yes! Five more clients!” or “I did it! I always win!” is a great thing to jot down and put before you so you are seeing it every day.
My team also uses this process to reach their weekly goals. You can walk into any of their offices and see their computers decorated with motivational sticky notes!
Many of the writing suggestions mentioned here can be kept and recorded in a journal. Writing with intention can turn an empty book into a best-selling novel or a million-dollar business plan. Writing allows you freedom of expression and creativity. Your thoughts and dreams are often a gateway to your greatest success moments. All of my best ideas come from allowing myself to freely think and dream on paper.
I challenge you to get a journal and start the process of intentional writing so that you can manifest more of what you truly desire in business and life.
Many times people think “If I just work harder…If I have determination and perseverance…All I need is one big break…” to make my dreams come true…I just want you to know, your personal vision, attitude and expectation of a great life is what will keep you motivated and determined enough to persevere and reach your goals. Much of success is “inside work” long before it becomes a reality it is born in your heart and mind. By extracting your greatest desires and putting them on paper, you set the ball in motion to goal achievement.
