You’ve been equipped with an incredible power that can help you realize your dreams and goals. This power can cause you to achieve your business goals faster than you ever thought possible, in ways you never imagined. This incredible, simple, powerful tool is one that you use every day: the words of your mouth.
If you’re like most men, you say about 12,000 words every day. If you’re like most women, you say about 25,000 words. That’s a lot of talking! Each of those thousands of words is setting something in motion – both inside you and in the world that surrounds you. Do an honest assessment: how many of those thousands of words that you speak each day are positive and life-giving and bring you closer to your desires? When you intentionally speak toward your success, what you say will actually cause you to attain that success.
I discovered the power of positive affirmations at the age of 13, and have been using them ever since. I’ve reached income goals, obtained lucrative contracts, made coveted connections and sealed many deals using this practice. Speaking positive affirmations is simple, but it requires commitment – and having success tools and props is very helpful as well. Whether you’re just finding out about affirmations, or have been using them for some time, the keys below will help you maximize your results.
1. Written affirmations cause drastic change.
A written affirmation is a powerful statement in agreement with your goals or desires, created as a tool to overcome an obstacle, achieve a goal or accomplish a dream. Creating a written affirmation is as easy as it is powerful. I’ve been using written affirmations every day to make the impossible, possible for years. Just put to paper what you want. It’s really that simple. Make sure you write affirmative statements in the present tense, as if what you want has already happened. For example, if you want to close a contract, write “I have a contract with ABC Corporation for $10,000”, not “I will have…” or “I want to have…”. This is very important – you’re training your mind to believe what you say so that it will work on your behalf to make it happen.
The key to making your written affirmations work for you is to say them EVERY DAY. I say mine in the morning, after (or as part of) my meditation time. You may not see immediate results, but over time you will begin to see that you have what you say.
Personal finance expert, Suze Orman knows about the power of affirmations. She grew up in a household where she was told over and over again that “we don’t have any money.” She made a decision to lead a different life as an adult, and used affirmations as a way of getting there. She wasn’t making a lot of money, but she began to say “I am young, powerful, successful and producing at least $10,000 a month.” She wrote this phrase down and said it over and over again, at least 25 times a day. In a matter of a few months, it became her reality! Put the words of your mouth to work for you, and see what you can achieve.
2. What you see, you say.
Once you understand the power of affirmations, you’ll want to use them all the time. New habits can be hard to form, though. If you write down your affirmations and stash them away somewhere, you may find that you’re not saying them as much as you should. Saying your affirmations once a week, or whenever it “comes to mind” will probably not be sufficient. There’s a simple solution to this problem: post them up all around you!
I use my Success Stickies to keep my affirmations in front of me all throughout the day. Many of my coaching clients have taken up this practice as well, and seen amazing results. The method is simple – take a few of your most important affirmations and write each one down on a sticky. Post it up somewhere that you’ll see it often. I like to use my bathroom mirror. Another great place to put your affirmations is in your workspace – some of my team members use their computer monitors as an affirmation billboard.
When you see it, say it. Don’t let your affirmations just become part of the décor. Every time you see your affirmation, speak it out loud. It’s a powerful way to train yourself in the habit of positive affirmation. Before long, you’ll be saying your affirmations without even thinking about it, and your circumstances will begin to align with what you’re saying.
3. Your only limit is your imagination.
When you write down and say affirmations, you have no boundaries. Your current business earnings, personal income, performance in your industry, and other factors of your current reality don’t have to dictate your future. Create affirmations about what you want to have, do, be, see and experience. Don’t limit yourself or your business. As you begin to say your daily affirmations, you will find yourself believing them more and more. Your mind will then begin to subconsciously look for ways to accomplish these things and you will begin to attract what you say into your life.

4. Make sure your environment is ‘saying’ the right things.
Most of us would agree that inanimate objects don’t speak. But chaos and clutter do send messages to our subconscious. They tell us that we’re not worthy of an excellent environment. A beautiful, orderly environment tells us that we are beautiful, orderly people and worthy of an atmosphere of greatness.
Make sure your home and work environment are places of inspiration. Keep everything clean, organized, well-lit and decorated in an inspiring way. If you can’t keep it all up on your own, make an investment in your growth and hire cleaning help – whether it’s for your home, your office or both. When the area that surrounds you lines up with the positive affirmations you speak, your words have even more power.
5.You can use your words to empower and encourage.
The power of our language isn’t just limited to positive affirmations. In our conversations, especially with those closest to us, we can deeply impact others’ lives with our words. It’s too easy to say whatever ‘comes to mind’ and not consider the effect of our words. Today, make a purposeful effort to speak encouraging words to your family, friends, co-workers and employees. Your positive words will plant seeds that nourish and strengthen those relationships, as well as bring out the best in the lives of those you speak to. When you speak success to your team, your business partners, and even your customers and clients, you’ll begin to see your business transform as each person brings an attitude and belief in success to your operation.
“A word of encouragement from a teacher to a child can change a life. A word of encouragement from a spouse can save a marriage. A word of encouragement from a leader can inspire a person to reach her potential.”
John C. Maxwell
6. Start NOW
If you haven’t been using your words on purpose to make your life better, you’re probably using them to make it worse without even knowing it. The good news is, you can stop that now. Saying affirmations and speaking positively isn’t difficult, and it doesn’t take any money or even much time to get started. Below, I’ve provided some affirmations you can start saying today. If you’re really serious about using your words to change your circumstances, order your Success Stickies (in yellow & orange or purple & pink) and post them up.
