For years I’ve kept a journal to chronicle my life, plan for my dreams and strategize my goals. It is one of the important success habits that I do daily. Journaling empowers me to take my ideas and turn them into reality. My businesses, my household, my relationships, my travel plans, dreams and goals all are born, mapped out and manifested from the pages of my Success Journal. What’s written is real. Once the words and images hit the paper, you have now crystallized your thoughts and ideas. I’m a living example that you can use the power of pen and paper to strategize and create anything you want. That’s powerful! What’s even more powerful is sharing this truth with a group of ladies and watching them learn to do the same in their own lives and businesses.
It’s always exciting and refreshing for women to gather and experience the power and importance of connecting with and supporting other like-minded ladies while scripting their life for success. This is why I love hosting Journal parties or group journaling sessions with ladies in my inner circle. So many of my clients and friends have begun to do the same because it’s such an impactful experience. Hosting a Journaling Party can truly benefit the lives and businesses of those who attend in a number of ways.
1. Party guests can power-up their journaling routine
The accountability of being in a group strengthens your commitment to use the journaling process. Whenever I host book clubs or journaling sessions, the one thing I hear again and again is how creative people are in finding moments to read or get their journaling time in before they have to face the group. Having a journaling party not only gives guests a chance to enjoy a guided time of journaling right on the spot, it encourages them to buckle down in their own journaling practices at home. This small nudge can eventually make a huge difference in the outcome of their personal life and business.
2. Small groups spark big ideas
Working on your journals with a group of great minds makes it more fun and less of a task, which encourages creativity to flow. When sending your invites, ask everyone to bring a list of a few of their favorite journal prompts to share with the group. This is a good way to keep the ideas flowing. It’s also a great idea to have a pretty handout created with a list of journal prompts to give to your guests as a gift. It’s a small but very impactful gesture.
3. Start new friendships and nurture existing ones
There is just something about bringing women together to share ideas, support one another and enjoy some much needed girl time. A few years back one of my clients shared with me how she wanted to develop new friendships to fit the place she was in her life right now. I instructed her to pull out her journal and write down the kind of friends she wanted and the roles she wanted them to play in her life. She did exactly what I said. A few months later she happened to be at one of my private journaling events and met several ladies and began to create the girlfriend group she had written about. Bringing together like-minded boss babes has the potential of creating friendships with substance and longevity.
Here are a few quick tips to structure your Success Journaling Group.
1. Gather the right group
Invite a group of women who sincerely want to take action and reach new levels of success and happiness. Invite only women who are supportive, enjoy celebrating others and understand how to keep conversations confidential. When planning to host a successful journaling party, the actual attendees are a very important part of the mix. So keep these things in mind as you review your guest list.
2. Decide on your theme
What do you want the central idea of the day to be? Do you want your guests to focus on journalizing about their businesses? Or maybe a health and fitness journal party to prepare for summer. One of my clients is doing a “Success as I See It” journaling party to encourage her tribe to journalize about their next level of success. For one of my summer parties last year, we focused on the Beauty of Branding. Guests were giving branding tips then encouraged to script in their Success Journals how they planned to take their business branding to new heights. Choose your theme and use it as a guideline to plan your decor and activities.
3. Focus on only one part of The Success Journal
Journaling is a process, so you don’t want to overload your guests with so much to do that they don’t get anything done during the party. The Success Journal has so many prompts it’s best to pick just one. A party favorite is to have guests do the “What I see for me” page and then complete the “My Vision Page.” At the beginning of the year or at the start of a new quarter, a number of our clients like to host parties with their staff and have them write their work goals and a list of actions. For an inspirational party, have your guests fill in their favorite quotes on the allotted page.
4. Make sure that you leave time to share
Of course journaling is a very personal activity so you want to keep share time controlled and organized. As the facilitator, you can manage this portion by giving them ideas on what to share such as:
What one thing are you grateful for that you’ve written about in your journal?
Share a little bit about what you wrote today (based on whatever the party theme was). If what you actually wrote is too personal, then simply share how they felt about what you wrote.
Share the Ah-ha moment you had written when writing your last entry?
What positive thing did you learn about yourself?
5. Encourage the group to continue to journalize and take action after they leave.
I mentioned earlier that it’s a great idea to give your guests a list of journaling prompts to take home. I have found that journal prompts can be very helpful when trying to get your thoughts on paper. A journal prompt is a simple statement designed to spark ideas of what exactly to write. Here are a few of my signature journaling prompts. Feel free to share them with your guests, however please don’t print or market them as your own, as they are a copy written part of my journaling course.
• Ask where is my $1,000 dollars and write down what you hear. Move out on the ideas that stand out to you.
• What needs to be organized tomorrow for me to have a profitable day?
• List the things or areas in which you need to unclutter and why.
• What’s making me happy right now? Write out what brings you joy in your life and puts a smile on your face. Express what it is fully and then write how you can add more of it into your life.
• Create a Business Manifestation list. What is the most important thing I want to manifest in my business right now? Why is this so important to me?
It so much fun to hear all of the testimonies and the great things that happen when women gather together with their Success Journal to script their lives for success.
